The cover of SLACKER depicts band flyers that were a common sight in the 90s as they were placed all over telephone poles.

About Rob

The Full Story

First of all, THANK YOU for visiting my page.

Some of you may have come over from Generation Riff while others may have found this page via articles I've written on Medium and others from my social media pages. Regardless of how you got here, I'm thrilled you're here.

Writing my first book, Slacker - 1991, Teen Spirit Angst, and the Generation It Created  (2024 Inspired by You Books) was daunting yet exhilarating. Having the opportunity to discuss the music that has essentially shaped my life and given me more than I can ever give back is something I do not take for granted. I hope the words I've written inside the book will bring you as much joy as you read them as they did me when I wrote them. You can Pre-order your Limited 1st Print Run Edition/Signed Copy here.

I aim to give readers and music lovers alike something they cannot only read, but feel as well. SLACKER is a historical document of the grunge and alternative (including punk and hip-hop) movement of the early 90s. In addition to the historical, musical, and cultural content, it also entertains and educates. Stories of societal change, my musical and personal journey through it all, battles with mental health, and insights obtained from interviews I conducted with musicians, writers, scientists, professors, promoters, etc., from the era to help you tap into the passion that music naturally delivers.

Thank you again for traveling this road with me and check back often for news on the book and other projects I'll be working on.

All my best,

Rob

Passion - a strong or extravagant fondness, enthusiasm, or desire for anything

For as long as I can remember, from when I was six years old, music and writing were my biggest passions. What's life about if not connecting your passions and devoting your life to them? Do we not owe that to ourselves?

More than two decades ago I started doing some freelance music-writing and haven't looked back.

Over the course of those 20-plus years I've written articles, blogs, and interviews, hired to be on location for concert and festival reviews, and inside studios covering artists doing what they do best, make music. I've been interviewed and quoted about music and the music industry in several publications including Inc., Big Takeover, Entrepreneur, SI Live, and more.  Although I've never stopped writing I expanded my music coverage by hosting a radio show for three years at Makerpark Radio, started a record label (called SoundEvolution Music releasing both digital and vinyl music), co-hosted/co-produced the Abandoned Albums podcast, and created a multimedia website called Generation Riff.
